(4255) 1796/5 H10C PCGS MS64 Whitney CAC

Fabulous strike,color and PL surfaces. The first time I saw this coin I thought it was a specimen. You must see this in in hand. We have researched this coin extensively. There is a 66 which has issues on the reverse. Big black spots which appear to have been attempted to lighten or remove. The coin does not come with a CAC sticker and they are usually finest known friendly. The other coin that numerically ranks higher at 64 plus has a very large group of adjustment marks running directly through the portrait. I’m not sure how adjustment marks are treated in the grading room but that example did not suffer one bit. Both those images are online the 66 sold at heritage for 345 in 2008 after crossing from an NGC coin in 2007. Most recently that buyer may have taken a whack when it sold again at SB for 188,000 in 2015. The coin offered here is the Whitney Simpson coin and in our opinion is a better coin than the other two. No contest if you take the holders away. It came out of a the collection of a very astute collector who buys the coin and not the holder. He has been very successful scooping up great coins.
